10 Best Rings for Men UK 2024 | ASOS, Revere and More

Whilst it’s true that women are more prone to wearing jewellery than men, blokes that do like to accessorise are on the rise – hence the growing popularity of fashion rings. But whether you’re looking purely for a cool accessory or you have a big day coming up, finding your perfect match can be tricky.

To help out, we’ve created an easy-to-follow guide, including how to decipher the somewhat confusing sizing method. After this, we’ll show you our favourite buys from ASOS and Amazon. From silver ring packs to keep the cost down (but the style flowing) to unique signet rings and wedding bands to last forever, we’ve got something for every buyer and every budget.

How to Choose a Ring for Men in the UK – Buying Guide

Without further ado, let’s jump into the nitty-gritty. Here we’ll be considering the different features of rings, and how their characteristics affect the price and aesthetics.

1

Choose Between the Different Ring Styles

First and foremost, you’ll want to consider the style. When it comes to men’s rings they can be easily divided into two groups, decorative or plain. Let’s look at each individually.

Plain Bands Are a Subtle Option and the Natural Wedding Ring Choice

Plain Bands Are a Subtle Option and the Natural Wedding Ring Choice

The plain ring is a simple band unadorned with any design or stone. They’re what many men choose when it comes to picking a wedding ring, although they can still be worn as a fashion ring, particularly if they’re a little thicker in width than the average 6 mm band.

Being so simple in their design, band rings can be made of a wide variety of different materials, from the classic gold and silver to the more modern tungsten. Of course, their material will have a huge effect on the cost, the specifics which we'll get into shortly.

Decorative and Signet Rings Are More Interesting but Don't Suit Everyone

Decorative and Signet Rings Are More Interesting but Don't Suit Everyone

Decorative rings can come in many forms, from signets and sovereigns to blingy offerings with precious gemstones. A lot of decorative rings come down to personal taste. However, we would recommend trying to stay subtle if you don’t wear a lot of jewellery, as one big or chunky piece can quickly look out of place.

As with the plain rings, this style of ring can also come in many different materials. That said, if you’re opting for something with a gemstone, then the likelihood is that you'll only be given the choice of either a gold or silver ring

2

The Materials Will Be the Biggest Contributing Factor to the Cost and Quality

There's an almost infinite amount of materials which can be used to create jewellery, but for this article, we’ve managed to group them into two easily distinguishable classifications – high-end and inexpensive. Here's what to look for whichever way you're swaying.

Gold, White Gold and Platinum Are the Real Deal With a Price to Match

Gold, White Gold and Platinum Are the Real Deal With a Price to Match

For the top-end expensive materials, we’re generally talking about gold, white gold or platinum. These are all timeless choices that have been favourites of the industry since people started wearing rings, and, glamour aside, are used mainly because of their durability, strength, and ability to hold gemstones.

Karats are used to measure the percentage of gold in a piece of jewellery, the lowest (and cheapest) of which you'll find is usually 8 or 9 karats, with 9k being 37.5% gold. Percentages in between include 14 karats, which is 58.3% gold and 18 karats, which is 75%.

White gold, meanwhile, still has the same percentage of gold per karat measurement, but the majority of its 'other metal' will be silver, which gives it its signature colour. As you can imagine, if you want a 100% pure gold ring, which is 24 karats, be prepared to pay a pretty penny.

For an Inexpensive Choice, Go for Silver, Tungsten or Zinc

For an Inexpensive Choice, Go for Silver, Tungsten or Zinc

The inexpensive group will contain materials such as sterling silver, tungsten carbide, zinc, steel or even wood, all of which are great for keeping costs down if you're after more of an occasional-wear accessory than a ring for life.

Silver or gold plating can be a very affordable option, though if you'd like your choice to look as high-quality as possible, go for tungsten or sterling silver.

There are a couple of downsides to these materials, however, which is that they can rarely be resized and some aren't as durable. Plus, plated jewellery and those not made from pure sterling silver can sometimes contain allergenic materials which can irritate certain people's skin, or leave behind the dreaded green tinge.

3

Gemstones Will Add a Pop of Colour and Character

Gemstones Will Add a Pop of Colour and Character

When choosing a ring, one of the big decisions is whether or not you want to add a pop of colour and a dash of character with a gemstone. Rings that contain these are often used to accessorise with different attires, as well as to complement certain eye colours and skin tones.

Some of the most common gemstones are diamonds (now a man’s best friend, too), rubies, sapphire, emeralds, onyx and agate. Each has a different shade, and while most will bump up the cost of the rings, others (such as agate) have a more modest price, so this is a great option if you want a stone but don't want to splash out too much.

4

Figure Out Your Ring Size and Make Sure It's on Offer

Figure Out Your Ring Size and Make Sure It's on Offer

Wondering how to check your size? Luckily, it's surprisingly easy to do at home. All you need is some string, or even a small piece of paper, and a tape measure. Wrap the string or paper around your chosen finger, mark off when you complete the loop, then measure the distance in millimetres.

The only change to this system is when buying cheaper high street rings. They'll instead use the same standardised sizing as the rest of their products – usually S, M and L. If this is the case, we’d recommend going with whatever size you generally wear.

Just the Right Dose of Personality to Keep Things Interesting

This ring has a lot going for it, from the design to the wallet-friendly price tag. The ring is crafted from sterling silver and plated with 9 karat gold, which it then combines with a striking agate gemstone. It's this clever blend of materials that keep the cost low while still providing the wearer with a chic and upscale look.

The black and gold is a classic colourway on its own, but due to the neutral tones, you also won't have to worry about it clashing with different attires, making it perfect for everyday wear. This design is simple, but with just the touch of personality to set you apart.

Sophisticated, Refined and Totally Comfortable

Manufactured in London, this highly sophisticated piece is pretty much the perfect embodiment of refinement and class. The ring is comprised of 9 karat white gold, with a polished finish so clean that it has a mirror-like shine.

Using the classic court shape, flat all the way around and then ever so slightly rounded on the top and bottom, this is no doubt built for comfort and day-to-day wear. It also comes in a decorative and elegant gift box, in case someone is thinking of giving this a surprise.

Get a Great Set for an Even Better Price

ASOS's Design range aims to serve up fresh looks and designs for excellent prices, and we think they've hit the nail squarely on the head here. The designs featured are simple yet sophisticated, and you can mix and match as many as you like depending on your outfit or where you're headed.

Each of the rings is made from a zinc alloy compound with a gold or silver-toned finish. Due to the material, there is again a chance of allergy, however, if you know you won't suffer from the nickel in the alloy, then this slick pack is A* when it comes to value for money

A One-of-a-Kind Accessory

Sometimes it can be hard to find accessories that really stand apart from everyone else's. Sure, you can opt for a particular theme or design, but there's every chance someone could have picked the same product up just after you. Not with this personalised signet from Vnox, though.

With this product you'll send a (clear!) picture to the company, choose what finish of ring you want it engraved onto, and then let them get to work creating your very own unique piece of jewellery. Each piece is crafted on a resilient and durable stainless steel ring, making it affordable, too.

Embrace the Boujee

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a bling demon, then you're going to love this offering from Revere. The gold itself is 9 karat, meaning it comes in around 37.5% pure, but this isn't the big attraction of this ring.

Instead, the main attraction is the glittering diamonds which are placed around the front of the ring in a chevron design. The ring is around 7 mm thick too, which is a touch above the average diameter when it comes to blokes rings. This, in addition, transforms it into a little more of a statement piece, whilst still maintaining the look of a band ring.

Get the Sense of Adventure With This Mysterious Piece

With a delicate and detailed compass design, this ring feels both mysterious and adventurous in equal measure. It's crafted from allergy-friendly stainless steel and has a brushed matte surface, so it should look a little more subtle than the average gold (or mock gold) ring.

The buyer can decide between six different finishes, from black to rainbow, however, we opted for the classic gold. Some users have claimed that the plating on the coloured options does come off after some time, so you'll want to be careful with it if you'd like it to last longer than a few wears.

A Fashion Brand That Knows a Thing or Two About Trendy

Icon Brand are based in London and New York, so you know these guys will have their finger on the pulse when it comes to the latest fashion trends. Each of this three-pack comes with simple motifs that were inspired by nautical patterns, such as the twisted rope design found on one of the rings.

All the rings in the pack are made from 100% zinc alloy which is part of the reason the cost is low. However, zinc alloy often contains nickel, which is a metal that can cause allergic reactions. It's nothing dangerous for most people, but it could become irritating to some.

A Ring Style With a Rich History Making a Comeback

The sovereign is a coin with a rich history, and although they're no longer legal tender nowadays, they're still produced frequently for collectors as well as often being used in jewellery. This 22 ct gold number depicts Edward VII and the George Dragon, which to us makes it feel very regal.

Signet rings are also bang on trend, having recently transcended their grandad image to become seriously cool once again. The piece is available in a wide variety of different sizes and with it being 22 karats, it is around 91% pure gold. Again though, the downside is that this high-grade material bumps up the cost significantly.

Get Something a Little More Unorthodox

If you're looking for a ring that is a little more unusual than regular old gold or silver, Nuncad has a lovely range of different colourways that could be right up your street. There's everything from silver and blue to black and rose gold, and many interesting patterns, too.

We opted for this classy 100% black piece that uses the same materials as the others – each ring is made with tungsten, which is durable and scratch-resistant. However, be warned that the sizing is said to be a little on the small side, so you might want to go half a step up where possible. Luckily, the brand offers free returns if it isn't right.

An Investment Piece for Those Who Have Faith

Getting us underway is this super luxurious offering from JewelryWeb. The 14 karat gold ring has an emerald gemstone securely fixed in the middle of a Celtic cross, making this perfect for those who are believers or anyone who likes a bit of Celtic design work

There are some issues though. Firstly, it's only available in one size so it is only capable of fitting a small number of people. Secondly, it's rather expensive, and we imagine not many folks have that kind of money sitting around to spend on accessories.
