Although primarily for changing nappies, they can be equally as helpful in dressing your baby or even giving them back rubs and massages. From styled tables complete with drawers to luxury white dressers to even wall-mounted or portable options, there are plenty of choices.
As with all baby purchases, there are many factors to consider before deciding on the perfect table, including storage, dimensions and safety features. Our buying guide will explore all of these factors plus more before sharing some of our top recommendations from brands such as Little Acorn, Silver Cross and Baby Elegance, which are all available from trusted UK websites like Amazon, Argos and John Lewis.
A recommendation service that carefully researches each product and consults with experts across many disciplines. We are constantly creating new content to provide the best shopping experience from choosing ‘cosmetics’ to ‘food and drink’, ‘home appliances’ to ‘kids and baby’ products, reaching users all across the United Kingdom.
Table of Contents
The first place to start is probably the dimensions of the table, particularly the height. Changing tables come in a variety of different sizes. However, to find the one that best suits you, it should be pretty close to your waist height. This means you’ll be able to move around the table without straining or bending too much.
Our ranking includes tables that range from 87 – 102 cm in height, therefore depending on your size, some will be better suited than others. If you’re a taller person, a more elevated table is better and vice versa.
Another essential item you'll need beside your new changing station is a nappy bin so that you can easily chuck dirty diapers away and keep the smells contained.
Next up, you’ll want to see if your purchase comes with a changing pad. These are extremely useful because not only do they make it comfier for your little one, but a mat will also protect the surfaces of your changing table. Usually, they’re easily wiped clean or come with a cover that can be thrown in the washing machine.
However, unfortunately, it’s not common for your changing table to come without a pad, which means you’ll be left to fork out for one further down the line. Therefore, the ones that have this addition will save you a couple of quid. Plus, you don’t have to worry about it not fitting correctly.
There is one safety feature that is often overlooked by parents - weight capacity. Sure, you could have an inkling that a particular model is particularly weak, but having a definite figure will undoubtedly put your mind at ease. Most of the baby changing tables we’ve come across range from 10 – 15 kg. This should see that most babies up to between 18 – 24 months can still use the changing table.
As we touched on slightly earlier, there are two types of changing tables. One is made solely to be a changing table, which are usually cheaper, but once they have served their purpose, they're pretty useless. To help parents save money, there are changing tables that can convert into a chest of drawers, tables or other helpful furniture that can continue to be useful once the baby has outgrown their need to change on it.
Of course, these are a little more expensive. Nevertheless, it means your purchase has a much longer lifespan. Plus, you’ll knock off the need for another set of drawers in the future, so in essence, you’ll be saving yourself some money. These are often a little easier on the eye, too, should you be worried about that sort of thing.
If you have a baby who's always fussing during bath time, our selection of baby bath seats can help to keep them occupied.
The main safety characteristic used for changing tables is a frame around the outside that stops the baby from rolling out. These can come in either 2, 3 or 4-sided options, but of course, the more, the safer. If you’re vigilant when your baby is on the table, then a 2-sided piece that covers their height should be ample. That said, these are only for additional protection, and babies shouldn’t be left on the table unattended.
In some cases, you’ll also find tables with safety straps. These work similarly to that of a seatbelt to keep your baby locked in place. Changing nappies can be a somewhat awkward task if you've got an especially wriggly baby that's not happy about laying on their back! These straps allow you to keep your baby in place. But despite these being a great idea, they’re not too frequently found, which is a shame.
If you don't have one already, baby bottle sterilisers can help you to minimise cleaning so that you can have clean and sterilised bottles on-hand at all times.
When nature calls, and it’s time to change, babies need plenty of bits and bobs to get clean. You’ve got the wipes, the nappies, fresh clothes - it can be a handful, to say the least. For that reason, we’d recommend getting a changing table that comes with some storage solutions.
There are usually two designs when it comes to storage. One that resembles a dresser and another that looks more like open shelves with legs. These both come with drawers, shelves, trays, baskets. However, the difference comes down to whether you'd prefer to keep these accessories out of sight. If that’s the case, a piece with closed doors or drawers would be the better option.

As always, it was hard work picking our number 1 spot, but we opted for the Harlington Changing Table from Little Acorns. We find that it offers excellent value for money, being that it is capable of converting to a good chest of drawers once your little one doesn't need to change on it anymore.
However, while you're still using it, the piece has plenty of security thanks to the four-sided frame and has many roomy drawers for all your bits and pieces. On top of that, it looks great and is made with sturdy wood to keep it going for years.
Here we have the Happy Days Changing Station, which sadly has nothing to do with the American sitcom from the 70s and 80s. It does, however, have a lot of functionality when it comes to changing dirty nappies. The design has plenty of storage ports, including shelves, trays and even a basket.
Not only that, but the design comes with a changing pad that has a nursery-friendly elephant design on there. The design employs a two-sided frame for safety and has an average 11 kg weight capacity, which should be ample for most babies, up until about 18 months.
Not everyone has the luxury of plenty of floor space in their home or apartment. So, having a changing table that folds away when not in use can be extremely handy. Thankfully, Costway saw the need and produced a classic that weighs only 5 kg and can be easily stored.
It has decent safety features and a surprising amount of storage for a simple X-frame design. There's also one more feature that is particularly helpful, especially if you're on the taller side, and that's the height. This is the highest option in our ranking, so something worth considering for those blessed with the extra inches.
Silver Cross are one of the oldest nursery brands around. So, there is a certain amount of trust that comes with buying one of their products. After all, you don't make it this far down the line if you build shoddy goods. Here, we have their modern take on the changing table, which looks like it has come straight out of an IKEA catalogue.
The design is finished in white and natural wood and is capable of being either a four-sided changing table or a classic chest of drawers when you've finished. Moreover, there are three spacious drawers for you to store all the baby goods you could ever need. It's a little pricey, but this seems to be a solid investment if you plan on keeping it for a good few years.
Anyday is a new branch of John Lewis & Partners home wear and clothing, aiming to bring quality and stylish goods without the need to break the bank. We have to say - they do seem to have hit the nail on the head with this table! The design is simple, yet sophisticated and dependable. It has a shelf and a three-sided frame for additional security.
This design is all about being fuss-free and practical, which, just from looking at the picture, you can see it will be. We only wish you could lose the frame at some point, as this would allow the table to transform into an everyday dresser further down the line.
This bath and changing table combo from Mychild is designed to prevent excessive back bending while attending to your child, which can save you from dreaded back pains. It is also lightweight and easy to move around, with everything within reach whilst changing or bathing your child.
You will find a detachable changing pad included, and the design is made from a white plastic material throughout, meaning it's easy to clean. The bath is concealed so that it is out of sight when not in use, with a plug and drainage tube for easy cleaning too.
This offering from Roba comes with a manoeuvrable tray on the top. This adaptability allows you to pull it out at changing time, giving you that little more space to work. But crucially, you can slide it back in again when it's not in use, so it can function as a classic dresser. The table has three shelves, one which is open and two drawers at the bottom.
If you're not so keen on the design of the drawers, the company also give you the option of swapping those out for doors. Some users have found the hardware provided to be a little on the flimsy side, so you might want to upgrade the screws, bolts etc, just to be extra safe.
This changing table is a brilliant multipurpose station from My Babiie. Not only can you change your babies nappies, but they've also concealed a bath underneath the mat too! Furthermore, the washing station has a drainage feature, so you don't have to worry too much about cleaning.
There are plenty of storage options regarding the table, so you'll surely have enough space for both nappy and bathtime accessories. Our only concern is that some parts are known to be a little tricky to fit, so you'll want to be careful when assembling. Though, you can also pay more to have it assembled for you.
Out of all the baby changing tables in our ranking, we have to say this is up there in terms of aesthetics. The slightly quirky shape and Scandanavian-inspired legs are a delight, so you can rest assured that this will have the nursery looking brilliant.
Furthermore, the table comes with both three-sided and strap safety features, ensuring double security for your baby whilst they're changing. That said, it's going to cost you a pretty penny, so you'll want to be committed to the style as you won't be changing it anytime time soon!
This changing table is unique as it has more of a resemblance to a bedside table. It is super sturdy and has two convenient shelves underneath to store anything you need. Plus, when your baby outgrows it, it will easily fit in many places around the home due to its stylish and conventional design.
However, it is on the smaller side, so it might not be suitable for those of average height or above. Plus, unfortunately, there are no safety features. But if you're looking for a plain and simple changing table that you can use till after your baby grows up, this one is a great option.
